La vie secrete des bonhommes de neige - Secret life of snowmen
What do snowmen do at night? Students peeked their interest in this entertaining book that tells about snowmen’s secret lives at night. After reading the book, Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner, students did various literacy activities; including writing about their snowman and what he or she does during the night in the school yard or at home, while they are sleeping. Students then created their own snowman paintings illustrating favorite activities the Snowmen do at night!
Auto-portraits - Sancha Silbezweig
Wow! This project was inspired by contemporary artist Sandra Silberzweig – a contemporay artist we studied and then I instructed student on the artist's use of simple shape to create their own unique self-portrait. Students then used layers and layers of chalk pastel. They filled in their portrait with unusual lines & shapes, then layered and blended warm chalk pastels on one side of the face, and cool on the other. I encouraged them to mix colors from the same palette on top of one another, resulting in a very deep, rich tone. Ta da!
On attrape des flocons/catching snowflakes
I love these "Catching Snowflakes" winter art projects done by my students! The initial drawing is traced with black markers and then the students colored in their creations with oil pastels. Beautiful brilliant colors of children catching snowflakes on their tongues!
The art of painting leaves
Using pastels and watercolor paint, the students created some awesome, colorful autumn leaves!
our visit to the art gallery of Ottawa!

Our visit ignited students’ critical thinking skills that encouraged personal connections and explored beautiful tapestries and sculptures. Our visit encouraged students to express their creativity and to experiment with diverse materials and artistic processes in a hands-on art activity.
