energy and food chains
Exploring Food Chains
Students developed and applied their skills of questioning, sorting & classifying and making connections as they explored food chains in different habitats.Thank you to Susan from Let's Talk Science with the University of Ottawa! The students were engaged and excited to learn about the ocean food chains and also how robots play an important role in exploring ocean life.

Materials and structures
Our unit on materials, objects and structures of everyday objects; in this challenge, students were given a variety of materials and their task was to construct solid structures. This activity was meant to help us think about the purpose and properties of different materials and how some materials are better than others for certain jobs - we used sugar cubes, straws, marshmallows and tooth picks for this activity.
Les 5 sens/our 5 senses
To become good scientists, you need to explore your five senses! I set up various centers in order to challenge the students to use all of their senses! Our five senses lend themselves to science activities that require students to make observations with their eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin. That isn't all, though! These great activities had students investigating with and thinking about their senses. What fun!
Les 4 saisons - the four seasons
Learning about the seasons helps the students understand the passage of time and teaches them about change. While some seasonal changes are more obvious (like changes in the weather), there are many important subtle differences related to each season, like changes in the type of food that is available. For example, winter means shorter days, cooler temperatures, and little or no plant growth. In contrast, spring is full of new life with flowers budding and gardens beginning to grow. The students will be studying the seasons throughout the year and observing nature around us.
the Life cycle of the Apple - Le temps des pommes!
I bought 5 different types of apples and invited my friends to taste and eat all of the apples! I used an apple cutter to cut the apples and asked each child to sample and then think of descriptive words to describe their taste. In the end each child ate more of the apples they liked and then voted on the final poster to share their favorite kind of apple! I think the Honey Gold was by FAR their favorite!
Exploring our shadows
To investigate this, our class went outside to observe how shadows are different throughout the day.We traced our shadows at 9AM, and again at 2 PM. Students were paired up with a partner. One partner traced the shadows while the other one was the statue. Both partners traced their shadows. What a fun way to explore the daily cycle of the sun!
Life cycle of the pumpkin!
Jumping in the leaves - Sauter dans les feuilles!
A fun fall afternoon collecting leaves and of course, jumping into piles of leaves!!
Nos 5 sens/our 5 senses
Students loved learning about the 5 senses through hands on activities and investigations. During these science investigations students explored each sense and recorded their observations.
